Partendo dall’analisi delle impressioni espresse da Sigfried Giedion sull’architettura classica e vernacolare della Grecia, acquisite per la prima volta nel 1933, il saggio si focalizza sulla documentazione scritta e fotografica del viaggio da lui compiuto e, in particolare, sui suoi due saggi intitolati “Pallas Athéné ou le visage de la Grèce” e “CIAM at Sea. The Background of the Fourth (Athens) Congress”. Testi pubblicati rispettivamente nel 1934 e nel 1949, che qui vengono analizzati e posti a confronto con i ricordi di altri architetti razionalisti che parteciparono al IV Congresso Internazionale di Architettura Moderna.

Beginning from the analysis of the impressions expressed by Sigfried Giedion on the classical and vernacular architecture of Greece, acquired for the first time in 1933, the essay focuses on the written and photographic documentation of the journey he carried out and, in particular, on his two essays titled “Pallas Athéné ou le visage de la Grèce” and “CIAM at Sea. The Background of the Fourth (Athens) Congress”. Texts, published in 1934 and 1949 respectively, which are here analysed and compared with the memories of other rationalist architects who participated in the 4th International Congress of Modern Architecture.
