Santa Maria Nascente al Quartiere QT8 di Milano

La chiesa parrocchiale milanese al QT8, progettata dagli architetti Vico Magistretti e Mario Tedeschi tra 1947 e 1954, può essere pienamente compresa soltanto se considerata nella sua stretta relazione con il quartiere sperimentale per il quale fu concepita. Il suo linguaggio e il legame in fase progettuale tra architettura e urbanistica la rendono, infatti, tema eccezionale di modernità italiana, promossa nella ricostruzione successiva alla Seconda guerra mondiale. Il saggio intende valorizzare il legame qui perseguito tra architettura e città, ripercorrendo brevemente le vicende del Quartiere dell’Ottava Triennale di Milano e della chiesa, per arrivare ad analizzare più in particolare i caratteri specifici dell’edificio sacro, anche attraverso l’esame di alcuni disegni originali di progetto, finora inediti, conservati nell’archivio professionale di Magistretti.

Santa Maria Nascente in the QT8 district of Milan

The parish church at QT8 in Milan, designed by architects Vico Magistretti and Mario Tedeschi between 1947 and 1954, can be completely understood if regarded in its close connection with the experimental district for which it was conceived. Its language and the bond between architecture and town planning in the design phase make it an extraordinary theme of Italian modernity indeed, promoted in the reconstruction period following the Second World War. The essay aims at first to enhance the bond there pursued between architecture and the city, shortly retracing the events of the District of the Eighth Triennale of Milan and those of the church, and then to analyze more in detail the sacred building’s specific characteristics, even through the examination of some original project drawings, unpublished so far, preserved in the Magistretti’s architectural archiv.
