Per una coscienza estetica del cemento armato

Il cemento armato ha rivoluzionato la tecnica della costruzione edilizia, ma pur essendo passato ormai un secolo dalla sua scoperta, e trovando esso vastissima applicazione, i progettisti o sono ancora legati a vecchi schemi architettonico-decorativi ispirati dall’architettura del passato, oggi non più giustificabili, ed assurdi, o giungono ad espressioni moderne, ma ancora indifferenziate per quanto riguarda la tecnica costruttiva (cemento armato, mattoni, pietra, ecc.). Solo in pochi casi il cemento armato si libera dai “travestimenti” e raggiunge una sua espressione, una sua estetica. L’architettura moderna esige sincerità, e se non la raggiungerà non si potrà ancora dire abbia vinta la sua battaglia.

For an aesthetic consciousness of reinforced concrete

The reinforced concrete has changed the technic of the building costruction, but although it is already a century the it has been descovered and although it has a very wide application, the projectists are either bound to old architectural-decoratives schemes that take inspiration from old architectures no more comprehensibles to day, either they come to modem expressions, but jet indifferent of the constructive technics (reinf. concr., bricks, stones and so on). Only in few cases the reinforced concrets lose his “disguises” and attains has own expression and his own esthetics. The modern architecture pretends sincerity and if it will not attain this sincerity, we cannot jet say she has gained her battle.
