La Via Crucis di Bruno Gandola nella cappella del convento delle suore di Pino di Ponte a Elsa (Pisa)

Il presente contributo analizza l’opera scultorea della Via Crucis realizzata daL comacino Bruno Gandola per la cappella del convento delle Suore Salesiane Oblate del Sacro Cuore a Ponte a Elsa (PI). Frutto di un approfondito studio iconografico e teologico, l’opera, composta da quindici formelle in terracotta smaltata, interpreta la Passione di Cristo attraverso una sintesi stilistica che coniuga la tradizione degli incunaboli medievali con una sensibilità plastica contemporanea. L’analisi delle formelle evidenzia un linguaggio espressivo vibrante, in cui la modellazione materica e il rilievo conferiscono un forte dinamismo alla narrazione sacra. La Via Crucis di Gandola, realizzata nel 2018 e consegnata nel 2019, si distingue per la resa emotiva e simbolica dei dettagli, inserendosi nel dibattito sull’arte sacra contemporanea e ponendosi come espressione di una fede vissuta attraverso la materia e la forma.

The Way of the Cross by Bruno Gandola in the Chapel of the Convent of the Sisters in Pino di Ponte a Elsa (Pisa)

This contribution analyzes the sculptural work of the Way of the Cross created by the Comacine artist Bruno Gandola for the chapel of the Salesian Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart Convent in Ponte a Elsa (PI). Resulting from an in-depth iconographic and theological study, the work - comprising fifteen glazed terracotta panels - interprets the Passion of Christ through a stylistic synthesis that merges the tradition of medieval incunabula with a contemporary plastic sensibility.The analysis of the panels highlights a vibrant expressive language, in which the material modeling and relief create a strong sense of dynamism in the sacred narrative. Created in 2018 and delivered in 2019, Gandola’s Way of the Cross stands out for its emotional and symbolic rendering of details, situating itself within the discourse on contemporary sacred art and emerging as an expression of faith embodied through matter and form.
