Fare storia dell’arte vuol dire fare la storia dell’uomo in tutte le sue sfumature: il Neoclassicismo

Il testo qui proposto costituisce la trascrizione della registrazione audio della lezione dedicata al Neoclassicismo tenuta dall’autrice il dieci aprile 1979 in un liceo classico di Lecco, così come è conservata all’interno degli archivi dell’Istituto per la Storia dell’Arte Lombarda (ISAL). Nello scritto, caratterizzato da un linguaggio semplice e da modalità narrative tipiche di una lezione orale, l’autrice ripercorre il significato complesso di questa corrente culturale, prima che artistica, ricollegandola al significato di studiare e scrivere la Storia dell’Arte. Nel testo l’autrice propone in maniera sintetica le peculiarità del linguaggio neoclassico lombardo, facendo riferimenti al contesto storico e sociale milanese e a specifiche figure da lei attentamente studiate, come Giuseppe Merlo. Nel testo non mancano dunque riferimenti e interpretazioni personali dell’esperienza della cultura manierista e dell’introduzione nel capoluogo lombardo di piani di trasformazione della maglia e del tessuto urbano.

Making art history means making the history of man in all its nuances: Neoclassicism

The text proposed here is the transcription of the audio recording of the lesson dedicated to Neoclassicism held by the author on April 10th, 1979 in a classic Lyceum of Lecco, as it is conserved in the archives of the Institute for the History of Art in Lombardy (ISAL). In the writing, characterized by a simple language and narrative modalities typical of an oral lesson, the author traces the complex meaning of this cultural current, before artistic, reconnecting it to the meaning of studying and writing Art History. In the text the author summarizes the peculiarities of the Lombard neo-classical language, making references to the Milanese historical and social context and to specific figures carefully studied by her, such as Giuseppe Merlo. In the text there is no shortage of personal references and interpretations of the experience of Mannerist culture and of the introduction in the Lombard capital of plans for the transformation of the jersey and of the urban fabric.
