La Certosa di Milano (Garegnano) durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e i restauri dell’immediato periodo postbellico

Il saggio ripercorre le vicissitudini storiche accadute alla Certosa di Milano (Garegnano) negli anni quaranta, quando l’antico complesso monastico trecentesco fu colpito dai bombardamenti anglo-americani della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, senza fortuitamente subire gravi danni. Oltre ad inquadrare storicamente gli avvenimenti occorsi in quei drammatici momenti, l’autore sottolinea il contributo dei differenti soggetti impegnati nel restauro e nella valorizzazione del monumento negli anni immediatamente successivi al conflitto bellico, quando si dovette operare anche per ripristinare gli originari ambienti religiosi a seguito della loro parziale trasformazione in centro di assistenza, ufficiale e clandestina, di feriti e partigiani. Il testo indugia anche sulle differenti tipologie dei piccoli interventi di restauro eseguiti nella seconda metà degli anni quaranta, preludio delle grandi campagne di restauro promosse nei decenni successivi, che contribuirono anche ad accrescere la notorietà di questo insigne monumento nazionale.

The Certosa di Milano (Garegnano) during the Second World War and the restorations of the immediate post-war period

The essay retraces the historical vicissitudes that occurred at the Certosa di Milano (Garegnano) in the forties, when the ancient fourteenth-century monastic complex was hit by the Anglo-American bombings of the Second World War, without fortuitously suffering serious damage. In addition to historically framing the events that occurred in those dramatic moments, the author underlines the contribution of the different subjects involved in the restoration and enhancement of the monument in the years immediately following the war, when it was also necessary to restore the original religious environments as a result of their partial transformation in the center of assistance, official and clandestine, of wounded and partisans. The text also lingers on the different types of small restoration work carried out in the second half of the forties, a prelude to the major restoration campaigns promoted in the following decades, which also contributed to increase the notoriety of this important national monument.
