Spazio Vissuto e Spazio Fotografato nell’Architettura di Alvar Aalto

La fotografia ha limitato in maniera determinante la comprensione della profonda spazialità dell’architettura di Alvar Aalto. La sua iconografia fotografica determina una percezione complessiva dell’opera del maestro finlandese fortemente riduttiva, perché` rende invisibile la ricchezza materica e sensoriale della sua architettura. La dimensione sensoriale emergente dalle visite dei suoi progetti è il segno distintivo del vivere l’architettura di Aalto. Questo saggio indaga il rapporto tra immagine ed esperienza di spazio attraverso un diario di viaggio dell’autore dove fotografia ed esperienza vengono messi a confronto ed analizzati nella loro ricaduta sulla costruzione della storia dell’architettura.

Experienced Space and Photographed Space in Alvar Aalto’s architecture

Photography has limited the understanding of the spatial depth of Alvar Aalto’s architecture in fundamental ways. Its photographic representation determines a highly diminished overall perception of the oeuvre of the Finnish master, because the medium pushes into the background the material and sensorial richness of his architecture. The sensorial dimension emerging from the site visits to his projects is the distinctive feature of experiencing in person the architecture of Aalto. This essay examines the relationship between image of space and the first hand physical exposure to that same space through a pictorial travel log of the author where representation and experienced space are discussed and analyzed for their consequential impact on the construction of architectural history.
