Conservazione dell’architettura del XX secolo: una strada tuttora ardua e problematica.

L’attenzione verso l’architettura di epoche recenti è maturata solo negli ultimi decenni. Cosa fare per tutelarla, preservarla e riconoscerla come ‘patrimonio culturale’? Innanzitutto, bisogna identificarla e conoscerla; poi tutelarla con opportuni strumenti giuridici. Per analizzarla e studiarla, è possibile avvalersi della ampia documentazione che si conserva dei progetti originari, delle trasformazioni subite dall’edificio nel tempo: ciò consente una migliore comprensione e orienta le scelte progettuali, che dovranno, come in ogni intervento di restauro, essere calibrate e affinate per evitare trasformazioni che offuschino o distruggano i valori originali dell’edificio.

Preserving 20th-century architecture: still a difficult and problematic path.

Attention to the architecture of recent times has only grown in recent decades. What can be done to protect it, preserve it and recognize it as ‘cultural heritage’? First of all, it must be identified and known; then it must be protected with appropriate legal instruments. To analyze and study it, it is possible to make use of the extensive documentation that is preserved of the original projects, of the transformations undergone by the building over time: this allows for better understanding and guides design choices, which must, as in any restoration project, be calibrated and refined to avoid transformations that obscure or destroy the original values of the building.
